About
I'm a graphic designer and art director who is active in the arts community. I have extensive experience in print design though full service marketing and advertising agencies, as well as freelance through a variety of clients.
The name Maguffin Design came from a need to have a name for my freelance work for an awards show entry at a time when I was felling like a fish out of water in my community, (a red herring if you will), and decided to play on the Hitchock idea of MacGuffin using an alternate spelling. Hitchcock uses MacGuffin as a name for a red herring within the story, a clue or some other thing that doesn't eventually have real meaning. For me, at times, I like to add things within my personal work that give extra meaning. Maybe it's understood or maybe stays hidden from the viewer, but it adds depth for those who see it. (Think of the NINAs in Al Hirschfeld's work). While not a true MacGuffin in the Hitchcockian sense, it adds a wink and a nod and a certain playfullness to things. Since I won a special award under this name that first time, I suppose the name stuck.
